One of the most famous neighborhoods in Copenhagen is Nørrebro and not without reason, it is one of the more lively areas of the Danish capital.
There is something for everyone in the central neighborhood and is full of culture and life. However, if we look back, this wasn't always the best neighborhood to be in and Nørrebro still carries some of that stigma with it. But, don't be fooled, because Nørrebro is fun and exciting, and one can easily spend a full day here.
Coffee in Nørrebro
There are heaps of amazing coffee places in Nørrebro, so one might not find it too difficult to find some good coffee around. If you want to take it easy and sit down for a bit, visit Darcy's Kaffe. Not only do they know how to make coffee, but they also know how to create a beautiful aesthetic setting. But you may expect nothing less of this typical Danish establishment.
Do you rather drink your coffee while walking? My favorite place for take-away coffee in Nørrebro is Coffee Collective, right at the top of the must-visit street in Nørrebro, Jægersborggade. Grab a coffee-to-go and take a stroll down the road full of boutiques.
Walking in Nørrebro
There are a few places that one must walk past if you find yourself in Nørrebro. One of the more obvious places is Assistens Kirkegård, even though it is a beautiful cemetery it is almost being seen as a park. Plenty of people take a stroll or pass through here, making the cemetery all the more lively. And if you are curious, you can go and visit the grave of the famous H.C. Andersen.
If you have a sunny day or a bit of calm weather, definitely take a stroll along the lakes and have a look from Dronning Louises Bro, the bridge that bridges Nørrebro to the inner city and overlooks the lakes on both sides. If you do so, remember to take a tasty pastry for on the road. Like the cinnamon roll 'kanelsnurre' at Meyers Bageri or an almond croissant at Andersen & Maillard. For a delicious vegan option, pass by Cafe Kaf instead.
Shops in Nørrebro
As said Jægersborggade is full of fun boutiques, if you are looking for local shops this is the place. For beautiful second-hand clothing, carefully curated, step inside Tú a Tú. This shop is full of the most beautiful brands, like Isabel Marant, Ganni, and Baum und Pferdgarten.
Another street worth visiting when wanting to shop is Elmegade. In this street, you can find great shops for both men and women. One shop with male clothes in Nørrebro with great items is Lakor Shop, which has found the perfect combination between Danish style and surfer style. One can also find the Acne Archive on Elmegade, with hidden pieces and sometimes you can find a good deal!
Dinner in Nørrebro
For a more casual dinner go down Blågardsgade where you can find plenty of places. At GAO Dumpling Bar you can find a small but delicious selection of dumplings and sides to share with your company. But make sure to go on a cozy evening where you can sit outside and watch people enjoy their evening. For pizza, go by Plads'n and enjoy a cosy atmosphere with delicious thin crust pizza - and even better, it is all vegan!
If you fancy anything a little less casual, there are also plenty of other restaurants in Nørrebro. Cicchetti, for example, is a small place with a lot of character. Italian food, delicious wine, and a beautiful interior do we need to say more?
Drinks in Nørrebro
Nørrebro is the perfect place to go out for drinks, from local bodega's to wine bars, you can find something for whatever you feel like. For a cheap beer and being amongst the local Danish, Nørre Bodega is a must-visit. If you crave a bit more of an intimate space with special wine, Pompette has both. Every day you can find new wines on the menu, all for 50DKK. If you like the wine, they also have a shop filled with the wines they serve right there.
Hopefully, this helped you find out what to do in Nørrebro and let us know if you visited any of these places!
